Reflective Report for Brief 1

18th of March 2024

GDFM (Finish the Static look of the website this week, and have the animation sequence planned out by Friday, before 4:00 P.M.)

With this goal, how likely is it that I am going to get it done? Well, what I really want to achieve personally first is to actually apply the theories I’ve come up with about graphical world-building to this task, the aim is not to apply all the rules though, but, after my exploits in figuring all those things out, it would really be a shame not to be able to apply it here. With that said, as I am not too far with experimenting with those concepts, I might want to fiddle a bit here and there with things, especially as my design requires combining two worlds, which comes with its own mechanics. To create the parent, I will dedicate 3 hrs to that today, why? The set of things I have to do include sorting out the layout, cropping out the shoes, clearly defining what constitutes each world, and checking and balancing my decisions so far to ensure the animation is smooth sailing. Once that is done, the next is to use the first screen to sort out how the rest of the page will look, asking myself, will I be able to pull off that animation in time? If not, scrap it and go for something much simpler.

A proper list of what I am expected to do will be:

- Create a mood board using references on skateboards and skateboarders.

- Use this to guide the design of the website hero page on paper.

- Figure out how to make a circle 3D in Illustrator.

Now that I’m thinking about it, this module is mainly meant to teach you how to communicate how you want the website to turn out to the developers cause, should you want more movement type than Figma or XD can give, you might want to make a video for the developer for them properly carry out the task as you’ve designed.

Post 3 hrs of Working on the tasks set

I must say that for thee full 3 hers that I just spent trying to get things done, a nd trying to build a worl for the design, I did really achieve quite a bit of progress, but, I do know that I could have done better, I could have actually have a couple of Hero pages put together, but still, i think the current look of the second world is starting to look quite good.

What next?

From what I've done so far, I think I have a decent starting point to get off on actually designing the website, of course, I need to learn how to make light trails on Illustrator, but that aside, I could definitely work around playing around with different sizes of stars as extra elements, even though I have no idea how it will work, but I suppose I could market it as the sky with the fact that the shoes can take you that far.

What do I know so far:

So far, I know the main goal of this project is to not just be able to make a website look cool but to be able to present it visually. We have a total of 4 weeks to get this done using After Effects, a tool I'm not quite familiar with yet, but if I'm to make this website, I'd like to make sure whatever I make isn't filled with little problems, I'd like to make it such that it looks and works really well, and the only way to ensure this works is by maximizing my current prowess using the software, which currently involves, X motion, Y motion and keyframe assistant usages. But for designing the UI, I think I might be able to push that a few steps further and fix my mistakes much more easily, so basically, the focus here is my UI design skills, the animation is simply that extra wow touch.

What do I want to learn with this project then?

I'd like to improve my world-building skills, experimenting and confirming the hypothesis I've made so far. in the static world.
